Capshaw Connection Newsletter

April 2007

Student supply packs are available for pre-order through April 20th. The cost is $20 each and packs will be in your child's classroom the firs day of school.

From the Principal . . .
Every spring, students in grades 3 - 8 take the Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP)
Achievement Test. The Achievement Test is a timed, multiple-choice assessment that measures skills in Reading, Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Student results are reported to parents, teachers, and administrators.

Here are some helpful hints to make test days less stressful for your child:

  • Encourage your child to eat a good, healthy breakfast.
  • See that your child arrives at school on time and is relaxed.
  • Be sure your child has any test taking equipment he/she needs, such as pencils, erasers, etc.
  • Tell your child to listen to what his/her teacher says about the test and to be careful when marking answers.
  • A little bit of test anxiety is normal; it can help students work harder and more efficiently. However, too much stress affects performance. Encourage your child to do his/her best, but do not stress scores and results.

Congratulations Capshaw Staff!

  • Jessica Erdeljac and Barbara Whitefield have completed the National Board Certification process

Library News
The library is now open from 7:30 - 7:55 in the mornings, and from 2:50 - 3:15 in the afternoons. This will allow your child time to return a book or take an Accelerated Reader (AR) test. We need to strictly abide by these times since LEAPS begins in the library at 3:15 p.m. The computer lab is not available.
